The Native Born is a novel written by I. A. R. Wylie, first published in 1925. The story is set in the early 20th century and follows the life of a young American woman named Mary Fenno, who is born into a wealthy family in New York City. Mary is a strong-willed and independent woman who defies the social norms of her time, choosing to pursue a career in journalism instead of getting married and settling down.As Mary navigates her way through the male-dominated world of journalism, she faces numerous challenges and obstacles, including sexism, discrimination, and harassment. However, she refuses to back down and continues to fight for her dreams, even when it means putting her own safety at risk.Along the way, Mary meets a diverse cast of characters, including other journalists, politicians, and activists, who share her passion for social justice and equality. Together, they work to expose corruption and injustice in the city, while also grappling with their own personal struggles and relationships. The Native Born is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of gender, class, race, and power. It offers a vivid portrait of life in early 20th century America and a powerful message about the importance of standing up for what you believe in, no matter the cost.It was the first time that they were alone together since the eventful evening at the club, and in the intervening week enough had happened to give them food for intercourse. By mutual consent, the accident of the chandelier was not touched upon. Nehal Singh, though promising to investigate the matter thoroughly, had shown a distress out of proportion to his responsibility, and it was understood that for some reason or another, the subject was painful to him. On the other hand, he had shown a lively and warm-hearted interest in Lois’ recovery. She had sustained little more than a severe shock, and he had been constant in his attentions, as though striving to atone for an injury he had unwittingly done her. The accident had also served to deepen his interest in Adam Nicholson. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
