The mind in the making: The relation of intelligence to social reform examines how patterns of human thinking influence social conditions and collective progress. The work argues that many persistent social problems arise not merely from external circumstances but from inherited habits of thought that shape perception and behavior. It explores how traditional assumptions, unexamined beliefs, and emotional responses limit the effective use of intelligence in addressing conflict, inequality, and social disorder. Emphasis is placed on the need for critical reflection and intellectual flexibility, encouraging readers to question inherited ideas rather than accept them as fixed truths. The discussion highlights the contrast between advances in scientific understanding and the slower evolution of social reasoning, suggesting that reform depends on aligning intelligence with evidence, reason, and humane values. Throughout the work, attention is given to the connection between mental attitudes and social action, proposing that clearer thinking can lead to more constructive policies and relationships. The book ultimately presents intelligence as a dynamic force capable of guiding social improvement when freed from rigid traditions and habitual misconceptions.
