The Message I carried

In The Message I Carried, Robert Garrett shares a deeply personal and courageous memoir of survival, resilience, and redemption. From a childhood marked by abuse, abandonment, and confusion to years of homelessness, broken relationships, incarceration, and self-doubt, Robert’s journey reveals the lasting impact of trauma and the difficult road toward healing.Through honest storytelling, he explores the invisible messages many survivors carry: You are not good enough. You are unwanted. You do not belong. These beliefs followed him through family struggles, failed opportunities, military service, life on the road, marriage, fatherhood, and encounters with the criminal justice system.Yet this is not simply a story of pain.It is a story of faith rediscovered, purpose reclaimed, and the power of advocacy to transform lives and communities. As Robert reflects on his experiences, he challenges readers to examine their own wounds, confront destructive patterns, and embrace the possibility of healing and change.Raw, inspiring, and thought-provoking, The Message I Carried speaks to survivors of trauma, people seeking hope after adversity, and anyone interested in the connection between personal healing, faith, and justice reform.Inside this book, you’ll discover:A powerful true story of survival and resilienceInsights into the lasting effects of childhood traumaLessons on healing, forgiveness, and self-worthReflections on faith, redemption, and purposePerspectives on criminal justice and systemic reformEncouragement for anyone struggling with identity, belonging, or hope
