کتاب مفهوم ازدواج، نوشتۀ تیموتی کلر با همراهی همسرش کتی کلر، یکی از بهترین کتابی است که تا کنون دربارۀ ازدواج از منظر ایمان مسیحی ‌نوشته شده است. کتاب 'مفهوم ازدواج' حکایتی دیگر دارد. این اثر از کنار مهم‌ترین پرسش‌های انسان امروز درمورد ازدواج، بی‌تفاوت نمی‌گذرد و درصدد پاسخگویی به آنهاست؛ پرسش‌هایی از این دست که: چرا باید از ازدواج در جهان امروز دفاع کرد؟ آیا ازدواج سلب آزادی فرد نیست؟ چرا نباید آن را قید و بندی زاید شمرد؟ آیا همخانگی بدون تعهدی به نام ازدواج، راه‌حل بهتری برای ارتباط دو جنس نیست؟ آیا تعهدی رسمی بر روی کاغذ برای در کنار هم ماندن ضروری است؟ آیا عشق و ازدواج لازم و ملزوم‌اند؟ آیا ازدواج به مرگ عشق نمی‌انجامد؟کتاب می‌کوشد با نگاهی عمیق به مفهوم و هدف ازدواج از دیدگاه کتاب‌مقدس و توضیح آن در پرتو رابطۀ ما و مسیح، پوستۀ تفکرات سطحی را بشکند و شکوه و جلال این پیمان را با تبیین نقش مسیح به عنوان سر کلیسا و خادم-رهبر، و نقش کلیسا به‌عنوان بدن مسیح و یاور او توضیح دهد. در این میان با صراحتی در خور تحسین، از مسائلی سخن می‌گوید که بسیاری از نویسندگان مسیحی در مورد آن سکوت می‌کنند؛ مسائلی همچون حدود اطاعت زن از مرد در ازدواج، و اهمیت رابطۀ جنسی و نقش و تأثیر آن در این پیمان. همچنین از نیاز به کار روح‌القدس و عمل نجات‌بخش عیسای مسیح در بقا، استمرار و کمال رابطه‌ای که با ازدواج شکل می‌گیرد، می‌گوید و با آرامش و شهامت از مفهوم رابطۀ مادام‌العمر یک زن و یک مرد در چارچوب تعهد ازدواج دفاع می‌کند و به هیچ عنوان به پرتگاه همشکل شدن با باورهای جهان معاصر و تأیید همجنسگرایی، چندهمسری یا تعدد شرکای جنسی و رابطۀ جنسی خارج از چارچوب ازدواج درنمی‌غلتد.‏نویسنده نشان می‌دهد که علی‌رغم باور گروهی از جامعه‌شناسان، مفهوم ازدواج مسیحی، تن دادن به تلقی جوامع سنتی کهن از نهاد خانواده نیست و رویکرد چارچوب‌شکنانه و پیشرو ایمان مسیحی را در این عرصه با تأکید بر مواردی چون به رسمیت شناختن و ارج نهادن بر تجرد آگاهانه و هدفمند (که در جهان باستان کاملاً انقلابی محسوب می‌شد) آشکار می‌سازد.‏
