The first time I personally encountered Jesus was September 30, 1982. I was unemployed from a bank consulting job that had just ended. I went to a bookstore to look for a book on how to find my life’s purpose. I looked in the self-help, psychology and religion sections. Disappointed at not finding what I thought I needed, I began to walk away. Suddenly, as I passed the occult section, which as a Christian I would normally avoid, a book flew off the top shelf and landed on the floor in front of me. The name of the book was Psychic Energy. The book did not aesthetically appeal to me, but the circumstances of it flying through the air caused me to purchase it, against my better judgment. On the drive home from the bookstore, I made an agreement with God that I would only open the book to one page, like we used to do with the Bible, when we sought answers. I would close my eyes and open this book and expect whatever God wanted to tell me would be on one page.
