Charles John Cutcliffe Hyne (1866-1944) was also known by the pen name Weatherby Chesney. He is remembered as the author of The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis, as well as his Captain Kettle stories. This is the fifth of twelve novels in the Captain Kettle series. Catain Kettle is said to be based on a South Shields sea captain Davey Proffit, whose physical appearence closely matched the descriptions in the books.
