The Magical Tearoom on the Hill

There was a tearoom on a hill in Falkirk where the kettle was always on, the cake was always gluten-free and dairy-free, and nobody left feeling worse than when they arrived. Mother Murphy’s Tearoom was Debra Murphy’s dream - a place where strangers became friends, where people brought their troubles and left with a little more hope, and where every recipe was made with as much heart as butter. This is that tearoom’s book. The Magical Tearoom on the Hill is part recipe collection, part memoir, and entirely Mother Murphy’s. Yorkshire-born Debra Murphy moved to Scotland, built her dream tearoom from scratch, and watched it become a welcoming corner of the community - until Covid closed the doors in 2020. This book is what she left behind: the stories, the people, the laughter, the tears, and the recipes that fed them all.Inside you will find over 100 gluten-free and dairy-free recipes for cakes, bakes, traybakes, and comforting treats - from classic Yorkshire Parkin to legendary Grasmere Gingerbread, all tried, tested, and tearoom-approved. Alongside them are the real stories of the people who made Mother Murphy’s magical: the regulars, the one-time visitors, the staff, and of course Beatrix the Border Collie, who never missed a shift. If you love baking, if you love a good story, or if you simply believe that a cup of tea and a slice of cake can fix almost anything - this book was made for you.
