When eight-year-old Arga moves from Indonesia to California, everything feels unfamiliar. He misses his family, his friends, and the traditions that made Indonesia feel like home. Then a special package arrives from Grandpa Budi. Inside is an unfinished Indonesian kite made with bamboo and decorated with beautiful batik-inspired patterns, along with a message reminding Arga to keep looking toward the sky. When curious new friends Emma and Noah offer to help, an ordinary kite becomes an unexpected adventure. Their first flights wobble, spin, and crash, but every attempt leads to a new discovery. Together, the children explore wind direction, lift, gravity, balance, stability, and engineering as they experiment their way toward a successful flight. As Arga shares his kite and Indonesian culture with his new community, he discovers something science cannot measure: sharing where you come from can help build friendships and make a new place feel like home. The Magic Kite from Indonesia blends adventure, STEM learning, Indonesian cultural connections, friendship, and social-emotional learning into a warm story about curiosity, resilience, and belonging.Perfect for young readers, families, classrooms, multicultural libraries, STEM lessons, and children adjusting to a new home or community.Sometimes the simplest toys carry the biggest lessons.
