The Lion and the Raven

The Lion and the Raven is a visionary epic poem that unfolds across mythic time, drawing on Biblical imagery, prophecy, and spiritual imagination to confront the deepest questions of human existence. At its heart is a cosmic struggle between Darkness and Light, not as abstraction or metaphor, but as living forces that shape history, conscience, and the fate of the soul. The poem follows the Lion and his companion Raven as they move through realms of temptation, violence, and revelation, pursued by powers that seek domination through fear, deception, and false authority. Kings rise and fall, empires rot, prophets speak and are silenced, angels battle in the heavens, and humanity stands again and again at the threshold between destruction and redemption. Throughout, the poem insists on a moral law older than power and deeper than belief: that truth cannot be coerced, that compassion is stronger than conquest, and that the Light demands responsibility from those who carry it. Written by Jack Miller, the only child of two Holocaust survivors, The Lion and the Raven is rooted in Jewish memory yet reaches far beyond any single tradition, weaving together scripture, mysticism, history, and vision into a single, urgent song. Fierce, luminous, and uncompromising, it dares to imagine an end to tyranny, a reckoning for cruelty, and the possibility that even after unspeakable darkness, the world may yet be restored to the Light. 6
