The first half of THE LIFE OF CHRIST THROUGH POETRY AND OTHER POEMS is intensely spiritual. The first section follows Jesus Christ from his birth to his ascension. The second section, DIALOGS WITH GODMAN are personal prayers formed into poetry. The third section, OTHER POEMS are poems of this world. They are about everyday people doing everyday things. Some poems are autobiographical. The three sections together are a culmination of thirty years of writing poetry. I hope you enjoy the book. What follows is a selection from each section: BALLAD OF SOME MIRACLES OF GOD-MANThe Lord was walking down the road;Begged leper to be healed. The Lord healed him to ease his load;Leper laughed and squealed. The Centurion came and asked,For his servants’ good health.Christ said, 'Order be done, the task.'Servant was healed with stealth. Then Peter’s dear mother-in-law,Did have a high fever. The Lord healed her every flaw. Now, she’s a believer.Next, God-Man expelled the possessed,And cured those afflicted. From all illnesses, he gave rest.Tell no one.' he restricted. IN PRAISE OF THE GOD-MANLord, we start out the New Year with you.Bless us, as you always do.Protect us from all evil,And all forms of upheaval.Know that we praise your name,And keep the candle of our birth aflame. STATUS QUOWhen sadness penetrates the soul, the heart,And steals the joy of sensuous desire,And magic of sweet love turns bitter tart,And flustered lust is beaten to retire,Then lovers undertake to love no more. The idle fascination satisfied. The bodies, breasts, and darting eyes of whores,Were once the husbands, housewives, but they died.No more are eager, tender whispers heard. In bedrooms, lamentations take their place. The whole conception, love is but a word. These thoughts have proven; stated is my case. But nothing changes; lovers will still lust,And will continue till they turn to dust!I hope you enjoy th

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
