The Life of Captain James Cook, written by Arthur Kitson, is a comprehensive biography of one of the most famous explorers in history. The book chronicles the life and achievements of James Cook, from his humble beginnings as a farm laborer in England to his rise as a renowned navigator and explorer.Kitson delves into Cook’s early life in great detail, exploring his upbringing, education, and early career in the British Navy. He then moves on to Cook’s famous voyages, including his expeditions to the Pacific and his discovery of Australia and New Zealand.Throughout the book, Kitson provides a detailed account of Cook’s personal life, including his family, friendships, and relationships with fellow explorers. He also examines Cook’s legacy, including his impact on science, navigation, and the exploration of the Pacific. The Life of Captain James Cook is a well-researched and engaging biography that provides a fascinating look into the life of one of the most important figures in history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in exploration, navigation, or the history of the Pacific. On 9th August, Cape Prince of Wales, 65 degrees 46 minutes North, 191 degrees 45 minutes East, was sighted, and they believed it to be the most westerly point of North America. They landed on what, from Heydinger’s Chart, was the eastern end of the island of Alaska, but it afterwards was found to be the eastern extremity of Asia. This chart, says Burney, was found ''not only to be incorrect but almost unintelligible.'' The country was very desolate, neither tree nor shrub to be seen, and the inhabitants seemed afraid of their visitors, though not absolutely unfriendly. They were taller and stouter than those on the American side, and their clothing very superior. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
