The Legend Of The Sacred Image is a novel written by Selma Lagerlof and first published in 1914. The story is set in the small village of Vastergotland in Sweden and revolves around the sacred image of the Virgin Mary that is kept in the local church. The image is believed to have miraculous powers and people from all over the region come to pray before it.The novel focuses on the lives of two women, both of whom are deeply affected by the sacred image. The first is Ingrid, a young woman who is in love with a man named Mats. Mats is a sailor and is often away at sea, leaving Ingrid to worry about his safety. She turns to the sacred image for comfort and guidance, and her faith is tested when Mats is lost at sea.The second woman is Marta, a wealthy landowner who is struggling with guilt over a terrible crime she committed many years ago. She too turns to the sacred image for forgiveness and redemption, but finds that her past sins continue to haunt her.As the novel progresses, the lives of Ingrid and Marta become intertwined, and they both come to understand the power of faith and forgiveness. The Legend Of The Sacred Image is a moving and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of love, loss, and redemption, and is a testament to the enduring power of faith. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
