The inspiration for this work began during AJ’s second visit to Sierra Leone from the USA, when he noticed the changing landscape in his hometown and witnessed the crowning of his older brother as Paramount Chief Bai Kelfa Sankoh, II. It was then that the full impact of his grandfather’s legacy became clear-a legacy marked by a drive for progress, the creation of positive advancements, and an emphasis on staying motivated and actively involved in the pursuit of a better future for all. From that point forward, AJ felt a deep desire to continue the cycle of charity his grandfather had started, instilling in his own children, nephews, nieces, and the broader Sankoh family and community the power of forward gifting. The objective of writing this book is to enshrine his grandfather’s spirit of social solidarity-reaching out to educate and uplift the less fortunate in the community-while transcending personal desires for the common good. In this way, The Legacy of Bai Kelfa Sankoh I is much more than a biography; it is a living witness, a call to action, and a beacon of hope for future generations, guided by the enduring values of altruism and community service.
