The betrayal of the defector Magua, kidnapping of the fine-looking Munro sisters by hostile savages, and the ambush of innocent settlers are the gripping events that lead to the ultimate tragic conflict between the rival war parties. Centered around the brave woodsman Natty Bumppo and his Mohican friends Chingachgook and Uncas caught in the bloody battles of the war, the novel portrays a stirring depiction of the vanishing of an ethnic group and its way of life in the great American forests.
