Sobre IBD

The Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot is a foundational epic of Finnish literature that weaves together ancient oral folklore, myth, and heroic legend. Compiled in the 19th century, the poem follows mythic figures such as Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, and Lemminkäinen as they navigate creation, magic, love, and conflict. Rich in symbolism and runic verse, The Kalevala explores themes of nature, fate, and national identity, and remains a cornerstone of Nordic mythology and a major influence on world literature and fantasy traditions.

Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
