The primary question of this research thesis, whether the Kaʿba in Mecca is physically orientated toward Jerusalem, appears never to have been studied before.The secondary question is, if later accounts are correct, why were paintings of Abraham, Jesus, and Mary found in the Kaʿba at the time of its cleansing from idols by Muḥammad in 630 C.E.? The primary hypothesis is based on the location of the Ḥaṭīm, a low semi-circular wall on the north-west side of the current structure of the Ka’ba, which is the demarcation of the original Abrahamic structure and the resting place of Ismāʿīl and his mother Hājar.
