Almost a millennium has passed since the united monarchy was ripped apart during the coronation week of Rehoboam, the grandson of David. Jesus returns to the very spot where it happened and, with nothing other than a simple request for water, He begins reunifying David’s long-divided kingdom. Once again, verses from the beginning of the gospel-chapter four this time-are paired with verses from the end. John is not only building a body of evidence for Jesusas the triply-proclaimed King of the World but also as the incomparable Healer of History.
