The Interdisciplinary Eye

Paris has long served as the crucible of modern art, where tradition and rebellion continuously redefine visual culture. For centuries, artists from around the globe have converged on this city to confront masterworks of the past while forging radical new languages. It is this unique tension between profound history and revolutionary innovation that made Paris the essential setting for this program.This publication is the culmination of that intensive artistic and intellectual journey. Seven dedicated student artists engaged directly with the city’s vast visual archives, moving beyond passive observation to active inquiry. By encountering works in person across Parisian museums, galleries, and historic streets, they examined masterworks not as static artifacts, but as urgent dialogues between form, concept, and cultural context.The central premise of this program was translation: the rigorous process of turning art historical research into original creative expression. Guided by close observation in the epicenter of art history, each student investigated a specific master artist or movement, deconstructing underlying methodologies and conceptual frameworks. Through scholarly mentorship and critical discourse, they synthesized their findings into sophisticated research essays.More importantly, this intellectual inquiry directly shaped their studio practice. The artworks presented in this volume are authentic visual responses rather than stylistic imitations. Each student translated their encounters with Paris into distinct artistic voices, bridging canonical heritage with contemporary perspectives.This volume stands as a testament to their dedication, critical thinking, and artistic maturity.
