The Hollow Vale: Poetry of the Fabled Gable of Roman Britain gathers a cycle of lyrical prose and verse set during the waning years of the Roman Empire in Britain. Rooted in the landscapes and imagined lore of Somerset and the West Country, this work of historical fantasy forms part of the wider Tharion Cycle-a universe where history and myth blur through the mists of memory.Across these pages, ancient Britain is reimagined as Tharion: a land of crumbling roads, fading empires, and lingering enchantment. Each poem and story explores themes of loss, remembrance, and cultural transformation, drawing upon places such as Glastonbury Tor and Cadbury-real landscapes now steeped in imagined myth and ritual. The collection is divided into three companion volumes-Twelve Hallowe’en Myths for Bed-time, Caradoc’s Curse, and The Tale of Father Thorn. Together, they present a tapestry of folklore and dream, framed as translations from the lost Tharionese Runes-a constructed, archaic tongue said to echo through mist and memory. Through this conceit, the work becomes a rediscovered anthology of Britain’s forgotten voices, preserving legends from The Thorn and Chalice of Joseph to The Bell-Hound of Stratanhold, told in a deliberately archaic, resonant style that evokes the cadence of half-remembered prayer.
