There are three things I know for certain: I’ll never be a normal teenager. Not after what they’ve done to me. Blood doesn’t always mean family. Sometimes the people you share blood with are the ones who jab the knife in the deepest. Monsters are real, and they look like you and me. Six years after being abandoned by her parents and left to survive in a school where being one of the top students gets you punished, Brooklyn finds herself on the receiving end of a phone call-the call to come home. She’s forced to leave the found family of friends she’s trauma-bonded to. For the second time in her life, she’s being uprooted to face the unknown, this time with a secret and a target on her back. With her newfound freedom, Brooklyn wants to experience everything it means to be a teenager growing up in the 80’s. Fast cars, sneaking out, and reconnecting with her roots. She wants to forget her past and live life to the fullest. Yet her plans change when she meets Ryker at a random gas station-dressed in denim with a leather jacket. She knows he’s bad news, but in the best possible way. Brooklyn falls fast. Ryker falls harder. But what happens when Brooklyn’s past sneaks up on her in the form of flying bullets and soldiers armed to the teeth? Who can she trust? Who can she rely on without blowing her cover and exposing her darkest secret?
