The necklace became an amulet of hope for Marc when he discovered its magical powers. Marc and his best friend Joey Desch were often bullied at school. They desperately needed to find a way to protect themselves from the havoc the tormentors had placed on them. They used the powers of the talisman to help thwart this barrage of bullying. Joey had his own struggles to deal with; mainly his failing grades. The only way he could pass to the next grade is to turn in an assignment that will surprise even his teacher. Marc and Joey came up with a plan to try and save him from failing. They made a wish that entailed taking a faraway journey to Katmandu, near the Himalayan Mountains.
