The Game of Zero Consequences

Detective Sarah Chen thought she’d ended the game five years ago in Lakeland. She was wrong. When a series of suspicious deaths plague Portland-criminals who escaped justice through legal technicalities, all found dead under mysterious circumstances-Chen recognizes the pattern immediately. The killer is someone she knows. Someone she’s hunted before. Someone who should be dead or imprisoned.Lynn Hartley, the escaped mastermind from Lakeland, has rebuilt herself as Detective Lynn Hartley in the Portland Police Department. Using her badge and access to the system, she’s executing a carefully planned kill list of predators the law failed to stop. And she’s just getting started. As Chen pursues her obsessively, Lynn accelerates her murders and makes a devastating move: she targets Chen’s father and the surviving victims from Lakeland. The FBI becomes involved. The media descends. The city becomes a hunting ground.Lynn’s capture should end it. Her trial should bring justice. But in the courtroom, Lynn transforms from criminal into philosopher. She exposes the system’s failures so thoroughly that the jury-and the nation watching-begins to question whether she’s right. Whether the system is truly broken. Whether vigilante justice might be necessary. As Lynn’s philosophy spreads and a movement grows around her, Chen discovers something worse: the corruption runs deep. Federal agents. Police officials. Judges. They’re all compromised. All part of something larger. All working to ensure Lynn’s message reaches the world.Manipulated and framed by those she trusted, Chen is imprisoned for crimes she didn’t commit. A year later, she’s mysteriously released with evidence of a vast conspiracy and a warning: Phase Three is beginning. The game has evolved. And this time, Chen might not survive it.
