In the winter of 2010, a wee sprite of a ferret was dropped off at an animal research facility in Ramona, California. While the staff knew how to take care of ferrets, they did not have enough time in the day to spend with her as they were involved with several environmental studies in Southern California and Montana. Their focus was the dwindling population of the Golden Eagle. Every year, this facility holds an event called Hawk Watch. It is pivotal in educating the public on the plight of raptors. One volunteer, Mary ’Klibs’ Dralle (her last name rhymes with trolley), met the ferret and became her best friend. When the time came, Mary was asked to take the ferret home with her as she needed more attention than the staff could give. Other volunteers often inquired about the ferret and her adjustment to her new life and home. These are her stories . . . .
