Bruce Owens welcomes his latest original collection of poetry, The Fox and the Dark Apple of the Dancing Herd, which includes entirely new works as well as some revised poems from his five previous books. Owens has been writing since the 1960s and is considered to be one of America’s undiscovered national treasures of literature. Bruce humbly credits his teachers for helping him to hone and develop his craft. This volume was designed and edited with the help of his friend, student, and fellow writer, Devin Masterson. Bruce spent his early years in Manhattan Beach, CA, before moving north, where he became a legend of Santa Cruz County, capturing the wonder of where the forest meets the tides. Owens is known for listening to nature to find the harmony of creation and metaphors for the human experience. He is beloved by Santa Cruz locals for reciting his poetry to folks from all walks of life and praying for those down on their luck as he cruises through town in his electric wheelchair, whom he calls Betsy. His writing infuses themes of reverie, Christian faith, a devotion to human freedom, and an enchantment with nature. Bruce’s faith is Christianity, he believes that it’s not a matter of being tolerant of other religions such as Buddhism, but more so a sense of respect for other people’s persuasion. As he says, 'True religion frees the mind.' Bruce’s poetry is a lighthouse of hope on cloudy days; he sings to the place in us that longs for a warm smile and a hug. Bruce Owens says it best in his own words: 'We have a dream, and it is still strong within us like the icicles of sunlight that cannot be broken.'

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
