The First Lady & The Writer, Provincetown 1961, set in a time capsule, is the real life event fictionalized 'fly on the wall' account of Jackie Kennedy & Gore Vidal spending the day in Provincetown. At the time, Jackie was the most famous woman on the planet. They palled around, hid in plain sight and finally at the evening’s end were barred from a private drinking club because Jackie failed to produce an I.D.  The book explores that meeting in depth and elegantly delves into both Jackie’s and Gore’s distinct personalities. Their conversations are lively, introspective, and peppered with real facts to lend credibility, enough imagination to make it interesting, and an equal measure of cattiness to make it fun. Between the two of them, they seem to know everyone, and the cool sophistication they possess comes across as refreshing rather than snobbish.   The 1960s world created, captures a period of time when sophistication and glamour were something women were particularly thirsty. Jackie quenched that thirst just by being herself. To gain insight into two of the most fascinating people of the 20th Century, glimpses are provided into both their lives, past and present, not as the larger than life personifications they presented to the world at their zenith, but as sophisticated real people.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present.
