Martin Anthony Dean, a young boy of African American descent, is burdened by the belief that his life lacks significance and purpose. This sentiment intensifies as he compares himself to his accomplished older brother, who excels at athletics, and his brilliant and successful older sister. Martin becomes convinced that he is nothing more than a complete failure. Shortly after celebrating his fourteenth birthday, Martin decides to skip school by venturing inside of an old, abandoned house. However, fate intervenes when he is unexpectedly transported to a world torn apart by bitter rivalries and conflicts among children, teenagers, and young adults from various ethnic backgrounds. Equipped with only his school bag, which contains his textbooks, a lunch bag, a change of clothes for gym class, and a pocket-sized Bible, Martin is faced with the formidable task of uniting these warring ethnic groups. Simultaneously, he desperately strives to discover purpose and meaning in his own life, all while searching for a way to return home to his own world and reunite with his family. Come and embark with Martin on his epic journey.

Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
