Two heart transplant surgeons, Dr. Harrison Robson and Dr. Colin Farnsworth, known as the Dream Team, are best friends and work at the same hospital. Colin has a daughter, Amber, who needs a heart transplant. Colin engineers it so he becomes brain dead, and per federal law, the Anatomical Gift Act of 2006, designates Amber to be the recipient of his heart. A woman at the top of the transplant list is also a match and demands the heart because another federal law, the Final Rule, governs all transplant procedures. Amber refuses her father's heart, because she can't bear the thought of her dad doing this after she reflects on what a spoiled brat she's been all her life. She doesn't think she is deserving. The hospital and her mother try to force her to get the transplant against her will. The hospital loses in court and the woman at the top of the list gets the heart. When another heart becomes available, Amber refuses it too. Can she be convinced that this is the right time and the right donor? Dezaraé Dunsmuir has written all of her life in a wide variety of genres. This is her first novel. Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
