He appeared as the Word of the Lord, as the presence within the Glory of the Lord, as the personification of Wisdom, as the Angel of the Lord, as the Captain of the Lord’s army, and as Yahweh on earth. Some of his appearances were dramatic, while others were subtle. Each of them highlights the Son’s role as the Father’s messenger. And the appearances all foreshadowed the Incarnation, when the Son of God would become a man and more fully reveal the Godhead to his creation.
