Doris Wagon studied at Wall Hall teacher training college and her specialist subjects were Economic Geography and Geology. This book is her final year dissertation. Having watched Hemel Hempstead develop in 1957 from a small market town around a Norman Church with outlying farms and hamlets, with the main shopping street, what is now the Old Town High Street, to the development of the New Town and the Marlows in the late 1960s / early 1970s it seemed a natural and interesting story to record and tell.
