The Courtesan is a novel written by Edward Thompson in 1765. Set in 18th century London, the book follows the story of a young woman named Emily, who is forced to become a courtesan to support herself and her family. Emily is beautiful, intelligent, and ambitious, and she quickly rises to the top of her profession, becoming one of the most sought-after courtesans in the city. Along the way, she attracts the attention of several powerful men, including a wealthy merchant, a dashing young nobleman, and a notorious rake. As Emily navigates the dangerous world of high society, she must also confront her own desires and ambitions, and decide whether to pursue true love or continue on her path as a courtesan. The Courtesan is a gripping tale of love, betrayal, and ambition, and a fascinating glimpse into the world of 18th century London. Also Includes The Book The Meretriciad. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
