The Company of Jehu is a historical adventure novel written by Alexandre Dumas and originally published in 1894. The story is set in France during the late 18th century, a time of political upheaval and social unrest. It follows the exploits of a group of highwaymen known as the Company of Jehu, who rob from the rich and give to the poor, in the tradition of the legendary outlaw Robin Hood. The protagonist of the novel is Amde de Montauran, a young nobleman who becomes involved with the Company of Jehu after falling in love with their leader, the beautiful and enigmatic Marie de Verneuil. Together, they embark on a series of daring heists and dangerous escapades, all while trying to evade the authorities and stay one step ahead of their enemies. As the story unfolds, Amde and Marie find themselves caught up in a web of political intrigue and personal vendettas, as various factions jockey for power and influence in the tumultuous world of revolutionary France. Along the way, they encounter a colorful cast of characters, including corrupt politicians, ruthless bandits, and heroic rebels, all of whom play a role in shaping their destiny. The Company of Jehu is a thrilling tale of adventure, romance, and political intrigue, set against the backdrop of one of the most turbulent periods in French history. With its vivid characters, fast-paced plot, and rich historical detail, it remains a beloved classic of adventure literature to this day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
