In The Comeback, the second book in the middle-grade trilogy, soccer star Teresa Rodriguez, now 13, is still striving for her first soccer championship, but her life now is even more complicated. She struggles with family responsibility; her best friend, Gabby, being shipped to a foster home; and the uncertainty about whether her father will ever return home. Meanwhile, once the season starts, Teresa is the captain as the middle-school Tornadoes tear through the league and Teresa shines. When Teresa’s team faces racism on the field, this time she knows how to deal with it. In the end, Teresa may face Gabby in the championship game. How she and Gabby handle this will be the best lesson in friendship either could learn - and may put a new spin on how you define victory.
