The Cleansing is a story about three retired journalists who learn of their friend’s untimelyand unlikely death. They may be older now, but being older doesn’t mean that they decidedto go home to the comforts of their easy chairs and televisions. Instead of only saying nicethings at their friend’s funeral, these three retired journalists come out of retirement, andcollectively they reinvest their hard-earned journalistic savvy and credibility into solvingtheir friend’s unfortunate death. During their investigation, they run headlong into corrupt, intimidating thugs who stop at nothing to suppress the truth of what their friend haduncovered. In today’s journalistic jungle, media outlets reporting the news use techniques we asreaders and viewers are expected to believe. Searching deeper into what is initially paintedas a version of a less than eye-catching news story, Max’s friends discover an undertowdriving the story. Typically, these stories start as a small grain of truth, but may then bepushed to its outer limits of acceptability by the media. Eventually, that undertow providescredibility to what otherwise would become a purposeful lie.As they set out to learn the truth, their initial motivation was to help Max’s widow. As theysearched deeper into the narrative, they run headlong into these devious characters whotry to derail the investigation. Undeterred and undiscouraged, by harsh and even cruelattempts to silence them, they recommit their hard-earned journalistic savvy to get at thetruth, to publish the story, and to bring justice for Max and his family.
