The Book of Jubilees

'The Book of Jubilees or the Little Genesis' is a significant work of ancient Jewish literature, traditionally presented as a revelation given to Moses on Mount Sinai. Often referred to as 'Little Genesis' because of its parallel narrative to the biblical book of Genesis and the beginning of Exodus, this text provides a detailed retelling of sacred history from the Creation to the institution of the Passover. It is characterized by its strict adherence to a solar calendar of 364 days and its emphasis on the divine origin of the law and religious festivals. This work serves as a vital link for understanding Second Temple Judaism, offering insights into the theological developments and legal interpretations of the era. Within its pages, readers will find expanded accounts of the lives of the patriarchs, including Enoch, Noah, and Abraham, often filling in perceived gaps in the canonical narrative. Translated and edited by the renowned scholar R.H. Charles, this edition remains a cornerstone for students of biblical studies, theology, and ancient history. Its exploration of angelology, demonology, and the eternal nature of the Torah makes it an essential resource for those seeking a deeper perspective on the evolution of Judeo-Christian thought. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
