No word has more meaning, more dimension or more interpretations than ’Beautiful’. In fact, there really is no true way to define it. You can’t describe it with absolute certainty. You can’t tell or show someone something and be sure they will regard it as beautiful. You can point out characteristics, identify certain qualities and quantify features in a way that have been historically thought of as beautiful, but you cannot determine a standard of beauty for anyone other than for yourself. For me, 'Beautiful' is our human connection to that which we regard as spiritually moving. Beautiful has nothing to do with the way something or someone physically appears to us. It has only to do with what we make from that appearance. Beautiful is in everything and everyone. And it is in equal amounts in all things, at all times. Beauty is the stuff in between the pieces and the parts. It is what draws our eye and races our hearts. It is in places you expect as much as in those that you don’t. Oftentimes you don’t see the beauty until long after you’ve experienced it. But it has always been there, is there now and will eternally be there forever and for always.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

Poetry is the expression of spiritual essence mixed with equal parts timing and human observation. It exists within each of us from the moment we’re poured into the bodies we fill and stays there our lifetime. It patiently waits until it matches with the experience needed for it to outwardly show. Poetry is in every part of us; it manifests in everything we do. Poetry is our spe...
