Twelve year-old Jack Smith is an ordinary boy with a hard life. He lives in a cluttered old apartment with his father. His father was not affectionate with him and treated him like an invader in his life. Jack had to pay for almost everything he owned and had to think for himself when he had a problem. One day at fencing class, his friend, Bruce, had accidentally given Jack clues to a secret that he was possibly hiding. Jack grew even more suspicious when his fencing teacher gave him a mysterious flask which Jack was not told much about. As Jack’s suspicions grew, he decided to visit Bruce. There he demanded an explanation about the truth. Bruce finally gave in and told him about a mythical world that was hidden from many humans, and a threat that the world could go out of control.
