The Baital-Pachisi, also known as The Twenty-Five Tales of a Demon, is a collection of Indian folktales compiled by Duncan Forbes in 1862. The book revolves around the story of King Vikramaditya, who is tasked with capturing a demon named Baital. The demon, however, tells the king a story with a moral dilemma at the end of each tale, forcing the king to answer a question related to the story. If the king answers correctly, the demon is captured, but if he answers incorrectly, the demon escapes. The book contains a total of twenty-five tales, each with its own unique plot and moral lesson. The stories range from tales of love and betrayal to stories of greed and deceit. The book provides a fascinating insight into Indian folklore and mythology, as well as the cultural values and beliefs of the time. Overall, The Baital-Pachisi is a captivating read, full of suspense, intrigue, and moral lessons. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Indian literature and folklore, as well as those who enjoy tales of adventure and mystery. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
