We maintain that only by grasping the true nature of poetry can creation avoid misdirection and appreciation strike at the core. Thus, this work begins by posing the essential question, 'What is poetry?' and advances a clear thesis: that the essence of poetry resides in its capacity to employ imagery to evoke emotion and provoke reflection. This central proposition runs as a guiding thread through every chapter.In the first chapter, we establish imagery, emotion, and reflection as the three indispensable elements of poetry. Whether a poem is lyrical, narrative, or philosophical, its vitality derives from the dynamic interplay and resonance of these components.
