When I was a young boy, my father used to tell me these story book adventures of a funny, friendly and world travelling worm by the name of Joe…Joe Worm, as he named him. Joe would leave his comfortable little tomato can home in the Pottsville dump and, along with his friend, Blacki the crow, he would seek out adventure in the world of humans. In this first adventure, Joe and Blacki discover some dangerous thieves stealing a treasure from a sunken Spanish ship. With the help of Sam Squirrel, Sir Bogie, and a crack team of canine helpers, he and Blacki assist the police in apprehending these crooks and in returning the treasure to its rightful place. Other adventures in upcoming stories include capturing swamp villains, horse thieves, head hunters, oil profiteers and…well, a whole bunch of unsavory characters that Joe must overcome. Joe’s character may be funny at times, and the crazy adventures he gets into quite exciting. But, above it all, he tries to be a “worm of character,” as he puts it, one who believes in God and tries to please him in all that he does. Along with Blacki’s inner sense of wisdom and foresight, Joe always makes it out safely from the dangers that befall him. I hope these adventures are as intriguing and exciting for readers as they were for me. Each story is loaded with both adventure and character quotes for young readers to discuss and target for personal growth. Underneath it all, these snippets of spiritual light will challenge both kids - even adults - regarding God’s expectations for our lives.
