Thalaba: The Destroyer is a narrative poem written by Robert Southey and published in 1860. The poem tells the story of Thalaba, a young Arab warrior who sets out on a quest to avenge the death of his family at the hands of an evil sorcerer named Oneiza. Thalaba is aided on his journey by a supernatural guide named Moath, who helps him navigate through various trials and tribulations.Throughout the poem, Thalaba encounters a variety of mythical creatures and supernatural beings, including demons, genies, and angels. He also faces numerous challenges and obstacles, including battles with Oneiza’s minions and a journey through a treacherous desert. As Thalaba continues on his quest, he learns important lessons about the nature of good and evil, the power of faith, and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. Ultimately, Thalaba is able to defeat Oneiza and restore peace to his land, but not without sacrificing much along the way.Thalaba: The Destroyer is a classic example of Romantic literature, characterized by its vivid imagery, supernatural elements, and emphasis on emotion and imagination. The poem is also notable for its exploration of Islamic themes and motifs, which were relatively uncommon in Western literature at the time of its publication. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
