La necessità di innovazione nell’industria manifatturiera per soddisfare le preferenze in rapida evoluzione dei consumatori ha portato alla produzione additiva (AM). La produzione additiva si basa sull’idea di aggiungere materiale per la formazione del prodotto invece dei metodi convenzionali che prevedono la sottrazione di materiale. Poiché l’AM è una tecnologia emergente, molte procedure e parametri di lavorazione non sono standardizzati, poiché per le industrie rimane difficile produrre parti prive di difetti. Il livello di porosità del prodotto finale è di interesse per i produttori in quanto rivela le proprietà del materiale e la microstruttura del prodotto finale. È fondamentale per tutte le industrie garantire che i componenti fabbricati con l’AM siano strutturalmente solidi e sicuri per l’uso in diversi tipi di operazioni. Pertanto, questo libro esaminerà l’uso dei test non distruttivi, in particolare i test ultrasonici (UT), su campioni stampati in metallo per il rilevamento dei difetti e la quantificazione del contenuto di porosità. Questo libro effettuerà anche un confronto tra gli UT e altri metodi di test non distruttivi e concluderà quale sia la tecnica migliore utilizzata per la caratterizzazione dei difetti nei campioni stampati in metallo tridimensionali (3D).
