Ein TAD ist ein temporäres Verankerungselement, das vorübergehend am Knochen befestigt wird, um die kieferorthopädische Verankerung zu verbessern, indem es entweder die Zähne der reaktiven Einheit stützt oder die reaktive Einheit ganz überflüssig macht, und das nach Gebrauch wieder entfernt wird.TADs bestehen aus einer breiten Palette von Implantaten, zu denen Miniplatten, Minischrauben, Mikroschrauben, Gaumenimplantate, retromolare Implantate sowie funktionell belastete prothetische Implantate gehören. Darüber hinaus können TADs eine temporäre prothetische Komponente sein (z. B. ein an der Goldkrone befestigtes Bracket), die nach der Behandlung entfernt wird. Sie können transosteal, subperiostal oder endosteal liegen und entweder mechanisch oder biochemisch (osseointegriert) im Knochen verankert werden.
