Teil I des Verhandlungsberichtes 1990 der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Hals-Nasen-Ohrenheilkunde, Kopf- und Hals-Chirurgie enthält die Hauptreferate, die von besonderen Sachkennern für die Jahresversammlung geschrieben wurden. Der Band enthält die Referate zum Thema Dysphagien. Über die Klinik der Dysphagien wird aus der Sicht des Internisten, des Neurologen und des HNO-Arztes berichtet. Weitere Referate beschäftigen sich mit den Möglichkeiten der funktionellen, der elektrophysiologischen und der radiologischen Diagnostik. Die chirurgische Behandlung der im Bereich des pharyngo-ösophagealen Übergangs auftretenden Dysphagien wird ausführlich dargestellt. Last, but not least werden aktuelle Konzepte der chirurgischen Rehabilitation des Schluckaktes nach Pharyngo-Laryngektomie aufgezeigt.
