Ted Hatcher: Growing in Grace is a work of historical fiction merging a fictional narrative with the historical record of the setting and period. Its setting is southeastern Ohio, just a decade after Ohio became a state in 1803. It is set in a time of great turmoil in the nation and world. The war of 1812 was being waged, followed by some years of weather anomalies, which complicated lives for those living in what remained a primarily wilderness region. The title character is a Christian pastor, the first to have settled in this area, and a man who has, by the strength of God, become a calming force for those living in difficult times. This book is a companion to two previous books, Ted Hatcher: Trader, Trapper Preacher and Ted Hatcher: Pioneer Pastor. And while it might be advantageous for the reader to have first read these books, care has been taken to make this latest book stand by itself, with the intent of informing as well as entertaining the reader.
