Este estudo foi realizado para avaliar a percentagem de concentração de cálcio nos ossos, utilizando ossos da perna e costelas bovinas. O laser pulsado Nd:YAG (1064 nm) foi utilizado para gerar plasma a partir de ligas experimentais e ossos. Foram feitas três combinações de ligas de cálcio/chumbo para criar uma curva de calibração (padrão). As concentrações de cálcio-chumbo nas ligas experimentais foram 0,01 g:5,99 g, 0,1 g:5,9 g e 1 g:5 g, respetivamente. A percentagem de cálcio nessas ligas foi de 0,16%, 1,6% e 16%. Os dados mostraram que o pico mais alto dos espectros de cálcio foi observado em 393,366 nm entre os outros comprimentos de onda, que foram 443,496, 445,478, 526,555, 527,027, 616,217 e 643,907 nm. Portanto, os espectros de cálcio ósseo foram analisados no comprimento de onda de 393,366 nm. A percentagem de cálcio na perna bovina foi de 19%, enquanto a percentagem de cálcio na costela foi de 13,6% após a exposição ao laser. Os resultados demonstraram que o cálcio calculado pelo LIBS é semelhante à percentagem de cálcio no esqueleto. Os resultados sugeriram que o método LIBS é uma forma muito precisa e fácil de medir e estimar com precisão a concentração de cálcio nos ossos.
