Tarantella is a novel written by Edith Macvane and published in 1911. The story revolves around the life of a young woman named Anne Lawrence who is forced to leave her home in New York City and move to a small town in Italy. Anne is the daughter of a wealthy businessman who has recently passed away, leaving her with a large inheritance. However, her stepmother and stepsister are determined to take control of the money and force Anne to leave the country.In Italy, Anne meets a young man named Carlo who is a painter and becomes her guide to the culture and customs of the town. She also meets a group of women who are known for their wild dances called tarantellas. Anne is drawn to the excitement and passion of the dance and becomes involved with the group.As Anne becomes more involved with the tarantella dancers, she begins to uncover secrets about her family’s past and the true nature of her stepmother and stepsister. She also falls in love with Carlo, but their relationship is complicated by their different social statuses and the disapproval of Anne’s family.The novel explores themes of identity, family, love, and cultural differences.
