Kinh Đại Bát Nhã có tất cả 600 quyển, gồm 5 triệu chữ trong 25 ngàn câu, là bộ kinh khổng lồ trong tàng kinh cát của Phật Giáo Đại Thừa, do Đức Thế Tôn thuyết giảng trong 22 năm. Pháp Sư Huyền Trang dịch từ tiếng Phạn sang Hán và Đức Trưởng Lão Hòa Thượng Thích Trí Nghiêm (1911-2003) dịch từ Hán sang Việt. Lão Cư Sĩ Thiện Bửu đã dành 10 năm lao nhọc, vừa học Kinh vừa viết luận bản này để xiển dương tư tưởng Bát Nhã theo tinh thần truyền bá và lưu thông. Ông đã khiêm tốn tự nhủ rằng, không biết những gì mình viết có phù hợp với tinh thần của bộ Đại Bát Nhã Ba La Mật hay không, nhưng chúng tôi cho rằng việc làm của Lão Cư Sĩ là việc cần làm và thiết thực hữu ích, ông đã giúp tóm tắt ý nghĩa và chiết giải những chỗ chính yếu của Kinh. Có thể nói đây là bản sớ giải đồ sộ thứ hai (trọn bộ 8 tập) về Kinh Đại Bát Nhã, theo sau Đại Trí Độ Luận (5 tập) ở Việt Nam.
