(Selection of the poetry of the 19th century Welsh poet Talhaiarn (John Jones 1810-1869))'Mae rhai yn brysur iawn yn casglu golud, Drwy lafur blin a chwys y corff a’r ’mennydd: Pentyrru llwyth o gyfoeth yw eu gwynfyd, Gan ychwanegu stôr o’r môr a’r mynydd; Gofalu a phryderu drwy eu bywyd, Yn ofni colled ac yn caru cynnydd; Ond teimlant pan yn hen, a hurt, a charbwl, Mai gwagedd ac oferedd yw y cwbl.'Cymerodd Talhaiarn, sef John Jones (1810-1869), ei enw barddol o’i dref enedigol, sef Llanfair Talhaearn yn y Sir Ddinbych hanesyddol. Roedd yn un o feirdd Cymraeg mwyaf poblogaidd y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg, ond hefyd un o’r rhai mwyaf dadleuol oherwydd ei fywyd afradlon, ei bersonoliaeth cwerylgar a’i wleidyddiaeth.Roedd yn ddylanwad mawr nid yn unig ar ei gyfoeswyr ond ar feirdd telynegol yr ugeinfed ganrif. Mae’r detholiad hwn o’i gerddi yn cynnwys nifer o’i ganeuon, sef y gweithiau yr oedd mwyaf adnabyddus amdanynt yn ystod ei ddydd, ond hefyd ei englynion, ei gyfieithiadau o waith Burns a Byron, a’r cyhoeddiad cyflawn cyntaf mewn un llyfr o’i gampwaith hir Tal ar Ben Bodran, un o weithiau llenyddol mwyaf trawiadol y Gymraeg yn y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg.

    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
