Matthew Wells Sanders urges passing a constitutional amendment that would transform the House of Representative to a body of citizens that meet certain criteria and who are chosen to serve via a lottery. Every second year, voters would decide whether to retain or dismiss their representatives on an individual basis. Upon a vote of dismissal or a vacancy, a new lottery would be held. Giving the chance for every type of citizen to serve would make the legislative process more efficient, improve accountability, and eliminate the conflicts of interest that are so rampant in government. The time has come, once again, for the people of our nation to reform our political system so that it more closely embodies the ideals espoused by our founding fathers and the many faithful patriots who have followed.
