Swimming Pool Inside the Sun

You’ve always suspected the Universe is stranger, wilder and more on your side than anyone’s told you.Swimming Pool Inside the Sun is a collection of poems and stories that work like sublime spells, validating those suspicions. Moving from mythology to monsoon, from the Knight of Voices to New Year’s Eve in Y2K Manhattan, volcanic saturnalia and fern raves, applying SPF 50 and soaring up into the mesosphere where sprites flash scarlet over thunderclouds: Laurie Perez delivers a sweet plunge into impossible spaces where it turns out you are the occasion each star rises to behold. This bright little book is a celebration, a steady dose of soulful wanderlust, a mad scientist mixing poolside cocktails, inviting you to dive in and be refreshed. In language that is scientifically precise and mythopoetically wild, Laurie Perez traces the arc from grief to alchemy, from the cellular to the cosmic. These poems and stories gather keys to quantum physics, tarot, Celtic myths and organic chemistry and use them to unlock a state of being that is earthy, reverent, rebellious and celestial.'DNA, your brazen epic - like Odysseus, never quite escaping war... the gods keep their distance and you, sometimes hopeful, more often beleaguered, battle memes and earworms to keep transcribing sunsets...' -Ars Poetica, SWIMMING POOL INSIDE THE SUN'Is a comet speeding toward the Sun fatally doomed and tragic? Or could it be the sungrazer is finally arriving - not bounced off by gravity to swing back out into the void, but merging with the flame and fusion it’s been hustling toward for eons... What will its icy matter now become?' -Sungrazer, SWIMMING POOL INSIDE THE SUN
